Barr Delivers Federal Funds for Mt Sterling Post Clinic to Expand Healthcare Services
September 1, 2022
Mt. Sterling, Kentucky— U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) delivered a $1,000,000 federal grant to the Mt. Sterling Post Clinic on Thursday. The Post Clinic will use this federal funding to construct a new facility to expand dental and healthcare services to underserved Kentuckians in Montgomery, Bath, and other surrounding counties. It is estimated that the Post Clinic will be able to provide care to 4,000 underserved Kentuckians, up from 400. Congressman Barr secured the funds during the most recent federal appropriations process.
“Today is the culmination of years of work by local leaders, Post Clinic staff, and our office to push this project across the finish line,” said Congressman Barr. “I want to commend these leaders for their perseverance in pursuing this grant award. Despite roadblocks along the way, we all remained committed to this critical project. The Post Clinic’s new facility will make a difference in the lives of thousands of Kentuckians and make our community healthier in the years ahead.”
“We would like to thank Congressman Andy Barr for his continued support of the Post Clinic project. We started this process in 2019, and today, with this award announcement of $1,000,000 in Community Project Funding, we can report that we've met our goal for the projected cost of this project. It truly has been a team effort, with local, state, and federal elected officials all coming together to collaborate and find a way to get this project funded. Quality healthcare opportunities are so important to the overall health and success of a community. We are so very fortunate to have the Post Clinic here to provide free health and dental care to those who are without health insurance, and to those who are underinsured. This new building will help the Post Clinic team meet many of their operational goals and to allow them to continue to provide quality care to our citizens,” said Mt. Sterling Mayor Al Botts.
“This grant award will help us expand our care to hundreds of Kentuckians and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future for the people we serve. I want to thank Congressman Barr, Mayor Botts, and all those involved who partnered with us to make this project a reality,” said Dr. L Edward Roberts, Medical Director at the Post Clinic.
The Post Clinic also received $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) COVID funds and $500,000 of traditional CDBG funds that Congressman Barr also supported. Additionally, the city of Mt. Sterling and Montgomery County each pledged $75,000 to this project.
